2 tracks I’m obsessed with on this month’s SoundCloud playlist ”“ the long awaited new Andrew Ashong track “Never Dreamed” and the epic “Ezra Was Right” by German duo Grandbrothers.
Andrew Ashong’s smoky, soulful R&B sensibility references the oldies like Roy Ayers and Shuggie Otis while adding touches of modernity through his use of organic electronic sounds. He has mastered the art of subtlety and because of this, it’s no surprise he’s Gilles Peterson’s boy wonder.
Ezra Was Right will likely be on repeat for days. The cinematic builds that intertwine piano chords with just a hint of electronic music showcases a softer more filmic side of house music. Nothing will keep you calm in NYC peak-hour subway commuting like this track does.
