Boutique Hotel Find: Autor Rooms Warsaw

With plenty of innovative design stays emerging globally, it’s no surprise that in the heart of Poland’s capital, a young design studio ”“ Autor Rooms Warsaw ”“ has created a one-of-a-kind boutique apartment-hotel that champions local Polish producers and designers in every possible way.

Over an entire floor of a renovated 1914 Berlin Modernist apartment, the space oozes both classic charm and contemporary aesthetics. Local design firm Mamastudio partnered with architect Mateusz Baumiller to create the four-bedroom boutique accommodation that sits somewhere between an inexpensive private apartment and intimate luxury stay.

Featuring a central dining space and communal kitchen, the apartment is filled with Poland’s emerging talent, from lighting to furniture and curated books or artworks. The four boutique rooms vary in size, theme and design, but all overflow with generous natural light that bounces in from the large glass windows and balcony doors, and off the white interior.

Autor Rooms was created by owners Madga Ponagajbo, MichaÅ‚ Pawlik and Piotrek RÄ™czajski of MamaStudio, who entered the project with no prior hotel experience. Their shared wealth of knowledge from travels bringing a personal approach to contemporary travel needs. Independently and passionately operated, Autor Rooms provides a comfort that almost becomes a home away from home, and a fitting introduction to the city. “Autor Rooms is meant to attract people looking for beauty, for unpretentious atmosphere and for an opportunity to connect with people with similar interests,” according to owner Magda.

One of the key elements of Autor Rooms is the team’s genuine hospitality, starting with concierge and hospitality manager Barthelemy’s effortless tour of the design-led apartment, to his well-curated local suggestions of Warsaw’s most interesting cafes, restaurants, and art spaces.

At Autor Rooms, it’s all in the details. Guests each receive handmade and leather-bound keys to their room, while the central, communal living room space holds a self-service coffee and tea counter next to a communal bar fridge offering local Polish beer and Italian wine based on an honesty system. Commissioned art and custom-designed furniture and fittings from local Polish designers and studios including Beza Projekt, Paged Meble, Purpura, Porcelana Kristoff, BISK, Comforty, Segiet Oniszh and Ultralight feature in each room. Stand-out pieces include designer Maria JegliÅ„ska’s tabletop mirrors in polished copper and oak, the Tylko shelving systems found in the living and dining rooms and fashion studio Zuo Corp’s custom-designed guest bathrobes.

In today’s Instagram-friendly accommodation spaces and plethora of boutique design hotels, Autor Rooms Warsaw authentically champions talent and craftsmanship for the informed, creative traveller. In tandem with a visually-inspiring space, the team enable visitors to uncover the emerging design scene of the city with genuine hospitality.
