(This article by Jenny Nguyen first appeared in ForbesLife. Click here to read the original)

The Dead Rabbit NYC gives you 72 reasons to head down to the Financial District. That’s 72 expertly crafted cocktails (by Jack McGarry who has been named international bartender of the year) and an extensive selection of thoughtfully reinvented classics making this cocktail bar NYC’s (and probably the world’s) most ambitious.

Unless you’re looking for casual a beer inside a noisy, mid 19th century style saloon, pass by the taproom and head upstairs to a more civilized cocktail parlor.

As you take a seat, you won’t help but notice one of The Dead Rabbit’s main attractions ”“ a menu that could easily be mistaken as a graphic novel, which lays out each style of cocktail against the emotional phases of John Morrissey’s life (who in case you haven’t brushed up on your history lessons is the founder of the infamous Dead Rabbit street gang). The painstakingly researched menu manages to cleverly recount the rise and fall of this historical figure while making your mouth water at the overwhelming number of creative tipples available.

As you would expect, great cocktails take time to create. And thankfully, The Dead Rabbit has all bases covered by offering each drinker a charming little teacup containing the day’s spiked punch ”“ this ensures thirsty guests have been tide over as they wait for their drinks to arrive.
