Restaurant Find: Vivant Cave Paris

First opened by Pierre Jancou in 2012 as an informal accompaniment to Vivant Table, Vivant Cave Paris is a creative kitchen counter and natural wine cellar. Whilst Vivant Table is no more, Vivant Cave lives on, under new management with a team whose contagious energies are at home in this ”˜living cave’.

The growing sweep of caves à manger in Paris are wine shops with twist: a special license permits drinking on site, so long as customers order something to eat. Due to its popularity, Vivant Cave ”“ unlike many ”“ accepts reservations, especially with those in the creative industries.

Chef Pierre Touitou and sommelier Félix Godart serve and entertain those who visit the small neighbourhood gem. Locally-sourced ingredients form a daily changing menu, with staples ”“ such as fish, pasta or baked fruit ”“ potentially paired with an organic orange wine. (Touitou’s slabs of homemade chocolate are also a must-try if you can snag a piece.)

The convivial, at-home atmosphere is authentic. An inviting counter and wrought iron fridge unit offer little by way of distraction from that which fills plates and glasses. Of an evening, tunes get louder as Buly’s Palo Santo wood burns, making Vivant Cave as elegant as it is fun.
