Restaurant Find: TÃ¥rnet Copenhagen

TÃ¥rnet, which translates from Danish into “the tower,” is the restaurant situated inside the uppermost section of the Danish Parliament’s tower, affording one of the most spectacular views of Copenhagen. Just over a year ago, before Danish chef Rasmus Bo Bojesen (a fixture in Michelin star level restaurants across Europe and Japan) took the reigns at TÃ¥rnet, the historic artifacts and statues seen inside the restaurant were simply collecting dust in this once forgotten tower.

Today, following some pretty reasonable security checks (this is parliament after all), a meal at TÃ¥rnet can be likened to dining in a museum surrounded by relics of the past or perhaps how dinner as a visiting dignitary to the Danish Parliament would play out.

Before you sit down at your table, be sure to walk all the way up the tower giving yourself enough time to take in that sensational view of the city ”“ but hold onto your hats, it gets pretty windy when you climb over 100 meters above sea level.

The menu is ever-changing with the seasons and is a contemporary take on Danish classics like tatare of Danish beef with lettuce emulsion, young redcurrants and crispy chicken skin. The result is as refined, sophisticated and layered, as it’s surroundings.

Dessert is a true highlight with incredibly elegant cakes and chocolates by Chef Bojesen who also happens to be the respected chocolatier responsible for Oialla, the exquisite line of pure, unadulterated chocolates, which you can devour with your dessert.

Perhaps after reading this, the same thought has entered your mind as it did mine ”“ that this restaurant, being in such an important historical building and situated at such great heights would have to be crawling with gawky tourists. But in my experience, there was not one in sight and even if TÃ¥rnet does become a tourist destination, it’s probably the case that only those with a matching level of sophistication might be inclined to book ahead.
