Restaurant Find: Hinoki and the Bird LA

In a city as spoiled with good weather as Los Angeles, there is no excuse not to make the most of al fresco dining. Head to Hinoki and the Bird LA, a mid-century modern mecca in Century City, and do just that. Walk through the dining room past the bustling open kitchen for its laid back patio filled with blue patchwork cushions and endless greenery. Designed by Milo Garcia, the atmosphere is as aesthetically temperate as L.A.’s weather. Warm wood, brass accents, and natural textures will have you unwind in no time ”“ as will the cocktails. Smashing Leaves with bourbon, passion fruit, lemon, and shiso will make sure your lips never leave the rim of your glass.

The menu at Hinoki and the Bird is filled with internationally-influenced dishes. Highlights from the Fun Bites selection include Japanese Curry Arancini, complete with Kewpie mayo and bonito; the Kabocha Squash Toast that brings together creamy burrata and butterscotch miso. Butter Lobster Ramen certainly lives up to its name, balanced with the freshness of herbs and baby bok choy on the Inspiration selection. Stick around for dessert to indulge in Miso Donuts with Honey Caramel or specials that keep regulars coming back, such as caramel-colored Cinnamon Apple Mochi, all served aside delicate silverware adorned with flowers.
