Restaurant Find: Barrafina London

Since opening in 2007, Barrafina is bustling with customers. The Spanish tapas bar; with only 23 seats along a tiled, L-shaped counter; takes no reservations, so the competition to get a spot is tough ”“ as in, ”˜up-to-two-hours-wait-for-dinner’ kind of tough.

But persevere, and you will be rewarded. The atmosphere inside is buzzy and casual, and the food is prepared in front of the guests on the plancha by the friendly team led by executive chef Nieves Barragán Mohacho. The main menu is updated throughout the year and they have a small list of daily specials. Barrafina serves a beautiful array of Spanish classic and contemporary tapas, such as a selection of deep-flavoured tortillas, juicy carabinero shrimps, deep-fried chiperones, pan con tomate, padrón peppers.

Following on from Barrafina’s success, there are two further Barrafina outposts in London – founders Sam and Eddie Hart opened  a second restaurant in Covent Garden in 2014, followed by its third location on Drury Lane in 2015.
