Brushstroke is one of those restaurants you should take someone who you plan to seriously impress. The fact that Brushstroke is a collaboration between NYC fine dining legend David Bouley and Yoshiki Tsuji, who heads the Tsuji Culinary Institute in Japan will impress even before you sit down.

Masters of each Japanese cooking technique are sent from the institute to teach their craft to western chefs in NYC and also work with head chef, Isao Yamada to create the show stopping dishes that form part of the multicourse Kaiseki menu. Kaiseki is the style of eating originated from the imperial courts of Kyoto and Brushstroke’s interpretation of it is utterly ethereal.

You’re in for the meal of your lives at Brushstroke. Expect Japanese haute cuisine at its most refined in an airy, minimalist space that evokes serenity and gives the food the space it needs to be fully appreciated.

Best Bit: The bar seating. Watching the chefs at work can be enjoyed as much as a beautifully choreographed ballet.
