Cocktail Bar Find: Lidkoeb Copenhagen

When the owners of Ruby, Copenhagen’s most renowned cocktail institution found a free-standing, heritage listed building (once an 18th century apothecary lab) hidden in a back alley behind a supermarket, they turned it into Lidkoeb ”“ now one of the city’s most stylish watering holes.

Situated in Copenhagen’s boho neighborhood Vesterbro, Lidkoeb begins with a lively outdoor courtyard, which can be made use of in the summer months. Expertly mixed cocktails can be had in the light, bright first floor bar, which has been designed thoughtfully in contemporary Danish fashion. Think smooth and supple Børge Mogensen’s Spanish Chairs, a roaring fireplace, oversized arched windows, tanned leather banquettes strewn with sheepskin throws ”“ all making Lidkoeb a rather inviting and cozy space in which to imbibe one’s cocktail.

Upstairs the mood completely changes into something reminiscent of an upper class social club. Darker and slightly more melancholy with leather Chesterfield chairs, the upstairs bar is where guests go to engage in quiet conversation as they swirl fine whiskey or sip on an elegant Scotch-based cocktail.
