If you’ve been wanting to head out of Sydney for a day or weekend then Biota may just be the thing. Located around an hour-and-a-half’s drive south of Sydney in the pretty Southern Highlands town of Bowral, it sits some 30km from the east coast of New South Wales.

Biota is a dining experience, a restaurant that brings the best of this high country, cool climate region together on a plate. Their ever- changing menu reflects what is in season with ingredients sourced locally from nearby growers, livestock farmers, producers and dairies ”“ as well as their on-site kitchen garden and hothouse.

Their own-grown Marigolds, urchin from the south coast, and cumquats are among the hero ingredients featured in the current menu. The set seasonal menus (of which, there’s a five course and a seven course with optional wine matching) are the best way to experience Biota’s innovative approach to food. The wine list is comprehensive and is offered alongside tasty cocktails that also feature locally sourced ingredients in parts.

Biota also serves as a boutique hotel with 12 rooms on-site, offering stay and dine packages for those looking to let their meal linger late into the night.
